January happenings

Melissa and I have been teaching an afternoon and evening ring making workshop. It feels nice to have our own space to conduct the class. 

We assembled our own table for the class. It is such a great table. 

I wish my camera was able to capture the entire studio space. So many cool additions to the space.

Lately I have been on Pinterest a lot, gathering my visual inspiration. I joined this site a few months ago, but have only begun to really spend of time on it the last two weeks. If you are not on this site, I highly recommend it. It is a place to search for or collect all your virtual inspiration- you can select images from the web or the site itself, and organize it by boards. You can then share those images with your followers, friends and family. The great thing for me is the format of the site, all the images laid out side by side, making it easier to connect all my interests together. You can also have a group board where two or more people can add to the board. That is what Melissa and I had done when we were beginning to brainstorm how our studio space would come together- adding images of tools we liked and spaces we found inspiring. I like my new collection of images on all my boards. I can't wait to experiment into my next series of jewelry.

I didn't want to neglect all the great activities that happened these two months. It certainly has been fulfilling with work + travel fun.

Victoria and I went to see Ryoji Ikeda's Transfinite exhibition at the Park Armory two days ago. I was completely encapsulated by the the cascading data displayed on the larger life screen. Along with the hypnotic sounds, I felt I could have stared at the screen forever. Kind of wild. Below is an example of what I had seen.

Ikeda's extremity inspired me to replicate and scale the drawings I was working on. It led me to this:

Sakura Gelly Rolls

My pack of pens came in the mail today. I am super excited about them. About a month ago, I started a series of abstract left handed drawings to explore fluidity in line quality. In addition to the markers and pens I have been using, I think these will supplement my drawings really well. I will, for sure, post some photos soon. Simple things like pens make me happy these days. They sparkle, yes!

Craftland Show 2010

"The 9th Annual Craftland Show is a quirky holiday sale located in downtown Providence, Rhode Island featuring an eclectic assortment of fine crafts and cutting-edge handmade items. The sale will take place from November 26 - December 31, 2010 in the year-round Craftland Shop at 235 Westminster Street, Providence RI 02903."
Also, if you are around the area, the opening party is on December 2nd from 5pm-8pm. I am happy to have my work there this year!

Kids Craft Magazine
Kids are the best! The sites give you a lot of how-to projects, patterns and instructions. I am interested in finding out how kids play with beads and other craft materials. How did I play when I was 5?

From the RISD alumni sale...

So many people came out to support RISD alumni. There was a really great turnout.

My old studiomate, Moon! I had a great time sharing the table with her.

A new of way displaying that I wanted to try out. I realized how important it is to place jewelry in a nice setting.


Although the day started early, time just flew by before I realized the Saturday was already over. What a busy day! It was a shame I could not have taken more photos. But I really did had a wonderful time up at RISD this past weekend. The weather could not have been any better. What I loved the most was having the opportunity to share my work within the art community, to receive feedback, and to see which pieces of jewelry people were most interested in. What I really needed the most from this sale was some sort of confidence to push forward with my work; and I think I got that. So I will continue making more and editing my body of work!

Thinking about the idea of putting jewelry in a new environment, how things can/cannot fit or adapt to place, and creating an atmosphere for objects.

I notice that I don't like to complete any of my pieces. I just like to move on to something new. Maybe I have to make my whole body of work to see how they can be unified. But also, I know I can be a bit lazy to think about how it will be completed.

On another note, as the days and nights go by, the footsteps from above are getting louder and louder. I hope the ceiling doesn't fall down on me.

I've been working on production pieces.
I'm exploring the possibilities of the circle, a very simple and basic shape. Taking this shape and applying/creating texture to it.
I'm working with different sizes and varying proportions.
I started to use the circle because it's common and there are a lot of precut discs and washers available.

Availability and prevalence is central in my work.
